If you’ve ever thought “I learnt models and theories at university, but I don’t know how to use them in actual practice,” you’re in good company. That’s a gap in how models are taught, not a gap in you.
The Kawa Model began with a group of occupational therapists in Japan who wanted a different way of sitting with a client: not assessing, not categorising; but asking, simply, how they want their life to flow. What they created has since found its way into practice across six continents and into the curricula of over 500 OT programmes worldwide.
The Kawa Model Made Easy was developed from practice research, at a time when the only guides to the model were dense scholarly texts. It been a free resource since 2010, and it will stay that way.
What's changing is what comes next.
The Kawa Model’s online home is being renovated. We’re building a community where practitioners can develop their practice together, contribute to the model’s growth, and stay close to the work that called them to this profession in the first place.
